Message from the Chairman of the Association: Venerable Kok Kwong

Changes in society and advancements in information technology have led human beings into the technological era of computers. Along with these changes, Buddhism is also using different methods to spread its teachings as well as its undertakings in education, culture and charity works etc.

Our founder, Sakayamuni Buddha, was a saint who gained completeness in wisdom and virtue from enlightenment. However, he was not the only complete being because he started out as a normal human being like us. He was able to advance into sainthood before us as he continuously practised the Right Way, Enlightenment and Truth. As long as we follow the same way as the Buddha, we can naturally gain enlightenment and become a saint like him.

The Association chooses the 8th day of the 4th month to launch this website for two reasons:

1. This day marks the birth of the Buddha 2,543 years ago;

2. After much hard work from Buddhists in Hong Kong, this day is also the inaugural Buddhist public holiday in the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong.

As this public holiday is hard earned, I hope that everyone not only remembers the noble spirit of the Buddha, but also uses his teachings for self-reflection. After all, Buddhism is a global religion that transcends race, status and territory, aiming to salvage mankind through compassionate grounds.

We hope that more people would come to know Buddhism through this website and use it to communicate with other fellow Dharma beings. Besides introducing the Heung Hoi Ching Kok Lin Association and the services, activities offered by its subsidiaries, we will also introduce Buddhism in a systematic way through the website. In order that our future generations can understand the subtle Dharma laws, we have also included a section for teenagers in the site. Please use our website to express your thoughts and queries, we will try our best to respond and reply. Our objective in setting up this website is to introduce Buddhism and real-life Buddhist stories so as to enhance our quality of living. May this website also act as a bridge to develop Buddhism on the internet and develop friendly interaction so that we can work together to promote the virtue and happiness of human beings, as well as to spread the truth of Buddhism to every corner in the world.
